Visitor Numbers

As our national parks are freely accessible, no precise numbers of visitors can be determined, of course.  The figures that can be recorded refer to participants of excursions and guided walks, visitors to information centres and exhibitions, participants of events, and school groups.

Some figures from 2006:

- 64,612 pupils visited national parks in the course of project days;
- 2,239 excursions and guided walks with 33,400 participants were organised;
- 375 groups came from abroad;
- 128 holiday camps were held for young people;
- 290,535 visitors came to the information centres; and
- 952 events took place.


According to a Gallup survey, excellent scores were reached by the diverse programmes offered, the quality of the tours, and the high value of nature experience.  Great satisfaction was also expressed with regard to the competence of the national park staff guiding the excursions and walks.  In total, three quarters of the persons surveyed had a very good general perception of their stay; 40 percent indicated that their expectations had been surpassed, and 99 percent liked their visits so much that they wanted to come back to visit a national park.  However, accessibility with public transport could be improved.
